Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: the correct technique for jumping requires us to swing our arms, bend our knees, look ahead and land with control.
  2. Think: evaluating our own and others' performance helps to improve our technique and perform better in competitions.
  3. Feel: listening to feedback and striving to improve our performance shows self belief and confidence when performing.
  4. Connect: playing fairly within our own team and against the opposition will allow everyone to engage in the competition.

Keywords

  • Competition - the process or act of trying to win

  • Evaluate - the process of thinking about the quality of performance

  • Technique - the method we use to perform a task

Common misconception

Pupils might think that jumping competitions only focus on individual ability.

When we are competing as part of a team, our performance is a combined effort and everyone in the team can contribute in lots of different ways.
