      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can use my knowledge of jumping to take part in competitions as part of a team.

      Key learning points

      1. Move: the correct technique for jumping requires us to swing our arms, bend our knees, look ahead and land with control.
      2. Think: evaluating our own and others' performance helps to improve our technique and perform better in competitions.
      3. Feel: listening to feedback and striving to improve our performance shows self belief and confidence when performing.
      4. Connect: playing fairly within our own team and against the opposition will allow everyone to engage in the competition.

      Keywords

      • Competition - the process or act of trying to win

      • Evaluate - the process of thinking about the quality of performance

      • Technique - the method we use to perform a task

      Common misconception

Pupils might think that jumping competitions only focus on individual ability.

When we are competing as part of a team, our performance is a combined effort and everyone in the team can contribute in lots of different ways.

      Teacher tip

Remember to recognise and praise the pupils who offer suggestions to others about ways they can improve. Some pupils may display great tactical awareness and help to guide others. Some pupils may continue to give their best effort even if they find the technique more difficult.
