Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: dodging a ball that is rolling towards us requires a ready position on the balls of our feet throughout the game.
  2. Think: concentrating on applying simple tactics as a team can help us dodge a rolling ball and stay in the game.
  3. Feel: encouraging yourself and others to take risks in the game to score points demonstrates self-belief.
  4. Connect: it is important to be honest and play by the rules so that everyone can enjoy the game.

Keywords

  • Avoid - staying away and trying not to go near something or someone

  • Game - an activity or sport in which people compete with each other according to agreed rules

  • Tactics - a carefully planned set of actions that are used by a team or an individual to achieve a certain goal

Common misconception

Pupils may believe that after agreeing a tactic, the team will be able to perform this tactic accurately every time and that when they do, it will always be successful.

Even when we make a great dodge into space and use a tactic, our opponents will react with a tactic of their own: this means that a tactic isn't guarenteed to be successful every time we use it.

Encourage teams to regularly discuss their tactics and reward pupils who listen to ideas from others. Remind pupils that all tactics have risks, and reward pupils who encourage their teammates and demonstrate a positive attitude, even if a tactic isn't successful.
