Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: developing accuracy in our movements will help increase our chances of success as a team.
  2. Think: making decisions as a team enables us to apply strategies that will help us to be successful in games.
  3. Feel: working as a team in games involves being honest and playing by the rules, even when we aren't winning.
  4. Connect: including all members of our team when making decisions demonstrates gratitude.

Keywords

  • Collaborating - working and connecting with others

  • Success - doing something well or reaching a goal you wanted to achieve

  • Compete: - playing, racing or performing against an opponent

Common misconception

Some pupils might think that teams are only successful if they score the most points or beat their opposition when they compete.

Competing successfully can be measured in different ways. Scoring the most points or goals is one measure. Including all team members, playing fairly or bringing positivity are all equally important ways of being successful when competing.

As with all subjects, it is useful to focus on the fun and improvement that can be achieved in the process rather than the end result. Awarding high value points during a game for elements other than physical skills can help to reinforce the importance of all four threads of a healthy active life.
