Roles and responsibilities
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can carry out different roles and responsibilities within a team.
Key learning points
- Move: moving quickly and adapting my movements to suit the role I have will help my team to be successful.
- Think: being clear about my role in the team will help me to make decisions about my actions.
- Feel: trying my best for the team and focusing on my role will demonstrate responsibility.
- Connect: being responsible when performing my role helps the whole team to be successful.
Keywords
Role - a specific job that helps a group work together
Responsibility - taking care of something or doing what is needed
Focus - to give your attention to something without getting distracted
Common misconception
Some pupils might think that trying your best means doing every role within a team.
Trying to do everything for a team is admirable, but one person can get tired quickly and someone else might also be more skilled at doing it. If everyone gives their best effort in their role, the combined effort can be very successful.
Teacher tip
Establishing zones in practice 1 will ease the progression into practice 2. Games such as rugby (all codes), lacrosse, hockey and cricket are good examples of games with specific roles and positions.
