Team activities: developing communication
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can communicate successfully with a team to complete tasks.
Key learning points
- Move: performing actions accurately shows that we can move in different ways.
- Think: concentrating on the task ensures we complete it as a team.
- Feel: contributing to a team’s success develops confidence.
- Connect: successful communication means we will play games accurately and perform actions correctly.
Keywords
Action - a physical thing we do with our body
Communicate - sharing ideas through talk and actions
Teammate - the members in your group
Common misconception
Pupils shout loudly thinking this will improve communication. Pupils high 5 with too much force.
Encourage the use of good sentences spoken at a normal talking volume. Be explicit about using gentle high 5s and ask pupils to imagine how a butterfly would high 5 their friend.
Teacher tip
If the teams do not seem equal after the first game, make suitable adjustments. Remember the Peak End rule: pupils are likely to judge a lesson on how they feel at the end. So, help pupils to think positively about their experiences with positive reminders at the end of the lesson.
