Team activities: playing fairly in groups

Lesson details

Learning outcome

I can successfully send and receive equipment as part of a team.

Key learning points

  1. Move: accurate passes are made with suitable force and good control.
  2. Think: ongoing reflection and making changes ensure team success.
  3. Connect: using encouraging words when talking to your team builds confidence and self-belief.
  4. Feel: considering the needs and feelings of others demonstrates empathy in a team.

Keywords

  • Force - how hard or soft we make a pass

  • Success - trying your best, learning new things and being confident

  • Team - a group that plays or works together

Common misconception

Pupils throw the ball up too high or throw overarm and then blame their partner for being unable to catch it.

Encourage underarm throwing, using gentle passes so the ball makes a rainbow shape in the air. Remind pupils that teamwork requires all individuals to work together and encouraging others.

Teacher tip

Ensure pupils know the difference between an underarm and an overarm pass before the lesson. Use smaller groups of 3, if pupils find the tasks challenging.
