      Team activities: solving problems

      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can work with a team and solve problems.

      Key learning points

      1. Move: moving successfully with equipment requires good coordination and teamwork.
      2. Think: concentrating on the team’s actions ensures we know when it is our turn.
      3. Connect: being honest and taking turns fairly means everyone can enjoy the game.
      4. Feel: coordinating movements with others requires good communication.

      Keywords

      • Coordination - the ability to move 2 or more body parts at the same time

      • Concentrate - focusing attention and ignoring distractions

      • Teamwork - a group effort to complete a task successfully

      Common misconception

Pupils don't concentrate, so they don't realise when it is their turn. Other team members shout at them to take their turn.

Encourage players to pay attention to their team so they know when it's their turn. Other team members can kindly prompt them if they miss their turn.

      Teacher tip

The theme of this lesson can be tweaked to suit your current topic, e.g. move toys from one planet to another or going on holiday. Remember the Peak-End rule: pupils are likely to judge a lesson based on how they feel at the end. Help them to think positively with prompts at the end of a lesson.
