Evaluating triple jump: personal bests
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can evaluate my triple jump technique and focus on improving my own personal best.
Key learning points
- Move: to perform a standing triple jump we must hop, step, jump in sequence and link the actions together smoothly.
- Move: we must swing our arms back for takeoff and forward during the different stages for power and balance.
- Think: we must land on both feet as the triple jump is measured from the furthest body part back.
- Feel: trying to beat our personal best each time we jump shows self-motivation.
- Connect: evaluating our partner's jumping technique can help them to jump further.
Keywords
Triple jump - a track and field event where an athlete performs a sequence of three jumps to cover as much distance as possible
Link - something that connects two or more things together
Smoothly - performing an activity without any sudden stops or jerks
Common misconception
Pupils believe that they will set a new personal best every time they attempt to and become disappointed if they don't.
Ensure pupils understand that they need to show resilience to keep trying if they don't manage to set a personal best.
Teacher tip
To help pupils remember which foot to land on during the jump, have them say, 'same, different, both' as they jump.
