Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: performing shapes and actions with precision makes our work clear.
  2. Think: creating a shape or action involves independent decision-making.
  3. Think: creating a variety of transitions enables us to be able to communicate fluently.
  4. Feel: identifying and rehearsing how to connect our actions together requires self-discipline.
  5. Connect: working with others requires respect and communication in order to improve our ideas.

Keywords

  • Sequence - a series of actions linked together

  • Precision - accuracy when performing a shape or action

  • Transition - an action that links other actions together

Common misconception

Pupils create sequences and motifs that include long stops between actions as pupils fail or forget to use additional actions to aid transition.

Remind pupils that in order to create a sequence that flows well, we need to include addtional actions to support the transition from action to action.

Other sentences can easily be substituted into this lesson plan, try to include three or four words that are a mix of literal actions (such as jump) as well as some that offer a greater range of interpretations (e.g. lazy).
