Lesson details

Learning outcome

I can apply different dynamics to my performance.

Key learning points

  1. Move: we must control our actions effectively and ensure they are precise when moving quickly and applying force.
  2. Move: performing actions with contrasting force or speed supports precision.
  3. Think: applying dynamics involves deciding on both the speed and force of an action.
  4. Feel: controlling our speed and force requires self-discipline.
  5. Connect: facial expression is an effective way to communicate emotions and feelings.

Keywords

  • Dynamics - the speed or force of an action

  • Force - the amount of effort applied to an action

  • Contrast - distinctly different

Common misconception

Pupils think that powerful actions should be performed quickly.

Powerful actions can be performed at any speed. However, rushing and moving too quickly can make it difficult to control the actions.

Teacher tip

Some children find using sounds can help them to capture the dynamic of an action, such as a gasp of surprise or a sigh of disappointment. Allowing the pupils to quietly include these during the devising period can help them to embody and sustain the different dynamics.

Equipment

Suggested music, short story (additional resources).
