Dynamics: speed
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can effectively control the speed of my actions.
Key learning points
- Move: performing actions at different speeds, including changes in speed, requires high levels of control.
- Think: making decisions regarding the speed in which we are going to perform our actions requires careful planning.
- Feel: ensuring sufficient space when moving quickly demonstrates responsibility.
- Connect: offering suggestions, ideas and feedback is a form of collaboration.
Keywords
Dynamics - the speed and force of an action
Speed - the rate or pace of an action
Control - being able to move your body carefully and smoothly, without wobbling or rushing
Common misconception
There are only two speeds, fast and slow.
There are many speeds. Think of a race, everyone will be travelling as fast as they can but the winner will have been moving faster than the rest. Fast and slow guide us towards the rate at which we should move and may need more clarification.
Teacher tip
If working in a limited space, it may help to define a section of the room for each group to work within.
