      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can choreograph dance actions using a traditional style of dance.

      Key learning points

      1. Move: performing actions to match the rhythm and tempo demonstrates musicality.
      2. Think: finding ways to change partners when dancing requires problem solving skills.
      3. Feel: practising to improve accuracy requires resilience.
      4. Connect: cooperation enables us to work successfully with different people.

      Keywords

      • Advance - to travel forward

      • Skip - a light, bouncy travelling action moving from foot to foot

      • Circling - travelling in a circular pathway

      Common misconception

When dancing a duet, you should always stay with the same partner.

Quite often, if dancing a duet, we stay with the same partner, but in some social dances we change who we dance with as part of the dance. This helps a community get to meet new people.

      Teacher tip

Use one pair or group to demonstrate each of the actions before giving the whole class the opportunity to try.
