      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can identify different types of contrast used in choreography.

      Key learning points

      1. Move: performing contrasting actions linked to direction, levels and pathways requires accurate timings.
      2. Think: making small changes to choreography requires creativity and decision making.
      3. Feel: resilience enables us to concentrate and try our hardest to ensure we can perform with accurate timings.
      4. Connect: working well as a group always requires cooperation.

      Keywords

      • Contrast - distinctly different

      • Pathway - the track of a journey

      • Repeat - to perform again

      Common misconception

Pupils think that contrast just means doing the opposite of someone else.

Contrast in dance means that you are doing something distinctly different, for example, performing different directions, levels and pathways to each other.

      Teacher tip

Orientate all the groups in the same direction as each other and be clear which end of the line is the 'lead'.

      Equipment

      Suggested music.
