My tag, your tag
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can create original choreography using the stimuli of graffiti tags.
Key learning points
- Move: performing our own tag motif, as well as a crew tag, requires a range of actions using different body parts.
- Think: creating a range of options for our ‘tag’ requires evaluation and decision making to select our favourite.
- Feel: working together and supporting each other to improve requires integrity.
- Connect: working with others to combine our tag ideas requires respect.
Keywords
Tag - a graffiti artist's signature
Crew - a collective or group
Motif - a pattern of moves that are seen more than once in a dance
Common misconception
Pupils think that in order to bring graffiti 'tags' to life through movement, you have to write in the air.
Creating a 'tag' using your body can involve writing in the air, but it could also include making and holding a shape, or even using the colour, style or shading as the stimulus for your actions.
Teacher tip
It may help pupils to access a range of images of graffiti tags as examples of the styles and shapes commonly used.
