      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can combine the use of dynamics with space.

      Key learning points

      1. Move: moving using a light and gentle dynamic communicates the aesthetics of a floating balloon.
      2. Move: performing actions with changes in level, dynamic and space communicates the idea of something being shredded.
      3. Think: arranging ideas into a dance involves decision making.
      4. Feel: responding to the space that another performer is using requires self-discipline.
      5. Connect: listening and responding to a partner’s ideas demonstrates respect.

      Keywords

      • Aesthetics - appreciation of beauty

      • Extended - outstretched, reaching

      • Appreciation - critical feedback based on understanding the values of the art form

      Common misconception

Pupils think that to communicate 'floating' they must use jumps.

Whilst jumping can communicate the sense of lift we associate with a balloon, the light, floating appearance comes from moving using a light, gentle dynamic which requires balance, control and coordination.

      Teacher tip

To communicate the contrast between the static and the travelling pupil, it may help for the static pupil to be at a low level.
