Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: keeping possession of the ball requires us to move into space, creating an angle to receive a pass.
  2. Move: accurate passing requires our hips to face the target and follow through towards the target.
  3. Think: deciding when, where and why to pass and move will result in scoring opportunities.
  4. Feel: integrity enables us to work as hard as we possibly can and keep trying even if we aren't successful.
  5. Connect: working effectively as a team to keep possession and create scoring opportunities requires cooperation.

Keywords

  • Passing - moving the ball from one player to another

  • Receiving - controlling the ball when it comes to you

  • Possession - the team in control of the ball

Common misconception

Pupils stand behind defenders when waiting to receive the ball. Pupils keep moving into space but don't look at the player with the ball to acknowledge they are ready to receive a pass.

Encourage pupils to move to the side of the defender creating an angle for the pass. Support pupils to communicate (verbal and non verbal) when they are ready in a space.
