How to win a game
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can accurately throw over the net into space and move my opponent around the court in order to win a point.
Key learning points
- Move: returning to the ready position after each throw helps to prevent our opponent from scoring points.
- Move: throwing the ball accurately and altering the power behind throws means we can move our opponent around the court.
- Think: we can score more points by concentrating on where and how much power we use to throw the ball.
- Feel: continuing to throw into space over the net to move our opponent, even when we make mistakes, shows resilience.
- Connect: cooperating with our opponents and playing by the rules demonstrates an excellent level of trust.
Keywords
Throw - using your hand to send a ball through the air to a specific target or area
Opponent - a person or team we are playing against in a game situation
Power - the ability to use force when throwing the ball over the net
Common misconception
Pupils may rush to throw the ball without checking where their opponent is positioned. Pupils may forgt to return to the ready position in the middle of the court on the baseline.
Encourage pupils to scan the court and look for spaces away from their opponent. Remind pupils to return to the middle of the court on the baseline after every shot and adopt the ready position.
Teacher tip
There is a lot of competition against each other in this lesson, therfore pupils may be tempted to not play by the rules in order to win. Throughout the lesson you may need to emphasise the importance of honesty and trusting one another.
