Introduction to backhand
Key Stage 2
Year 6
Physical education
In badminton, just like the forehand shot, it is important to hit your backhand shots with accuracy and consistency. You can use backhand shots to return the shuttlecock into space on the court when the shuttle falls onto your backhand side. You can also aim towards the back of the court to force your opponent into a defensive position. To successfully hit a backhand shot, you should: be in the ready position in between shots; your racket foot should point in the direction of the shuttlecock and your non racket foot slightly behind with one foot in front of the other; your body is rotated so you can generate more power; follow through after hitting the shuttlecock so your racket is pointing towards your target.
