Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: to complete the activities in the quickest time we have to move quickly and efficiently.
  2. Think: to be successful in the games we have to listen to our teammates and explore different ideas.
  3. Feel: taking on a leadership role and helping others who are struggling to read a map demonstrates responsibility.
  4. Connect: helping others when they are struggling with map reading skills demonstrates great cooperation.

Keywords

  • Leadership - to guide, inspire and unite our teammates towards achieving a common goal

  • Map - a picture of a place that shows where things are and helps you see how far one place is from another

  • Key - a guide that explains the symbols and colours used on a map

Common misconception

When reading the face map, pupils misidentify the equipment, especially when differentiating between quoits and cones.

Encourage pupils to use the key when looking at their map, rather than just looking at the objects on the face. This will help them to identify what each object represents.
