Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: to complete the cone orienteering quickly, we need to orientate the map and move as fast as we can.
  2. Think: collaborating with our partners to orientate the map will help us when completing the orienteering course.
  3. Feel: to complete the cone orienteering accurately, you need to show good perseverance.
  4. Connect: if other pairs find orientating the map challenging, we can show collaboration by helping them to understand.

Keywords

  • Map - a picture of a place that shows where things are and helps you see how far one place is from another

  • Orienteering - using a map to navigate through unfamiliar terrain, aiming to find specific checkpoints in the fastest time possible

  • Partner - someone who collaborates or works together with another person towards a common goal

Common misconception

Pupils believe that completing the course with speed is more important than completing it accurately.

Highlight the importance of balancing speed with careful thinking and teamwork, to ensure pupils complete the course correctly.
