Lesson details
Key learning points
- Move: applying dynamics to actions can help to communicate a dance idea more effectively.
- Think: reflecting on how we perform an action enables us to refine our work to project meaning.
- Feel: performing with integrity supports projection.
- Connect: listening and responding to feedback demonstrates respect and supports improvement.
Keywords
Projection - communicating the dance idea effectively
Exaggerate - to increase the size, force or effect
Dynamics - how an action is performed, a combination of speed and force
Common misconception
When applying dynamics, fast actions are always strong.
We often tend to combine fast actions with strength and slow actions with softness but this isn't always the case. Slow and strong could suggest great effort against resistence, and fast and light actions communicate fluidity and ease.
