Where I’m from: my home and family
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can collaborate to choreograph a dance using different spatial arrangements.
Key learning points
- Move: using the space competently enables a dance idea to be communicated effectively.
- Think: finding things we have in common involves reflecting on previous experiences.
- Feel: sharing personal information requires integrity.
- Connect: sharing information others share with us involves respecting their right to privacy.
Keywords
Level - the height of a shape or action - high, medium or low
Direction - the course we travel along or face
Formation - the arrangement of two or more dancers - lines, circles, blocks
Common misconception
Pupils are all uncomfortable with physical contact.
Contact must involve respect. Care should be taken to ensure any touch is appropriate. Most pupils are sensitive to this and respond appropriately. Teachers can guide this by identifying how contact should be made, e.g. touch toe to toe.
Teacher tip
If pupils are likely to be uncomfortable with physical contact, try placing an object such as a chair in the centre of the circle for the warm up and request pupils to make contact with the object rather than each other. The effect will retain the overall sense of connection between the group.

The practice tasks are also available as printable worksheets and some lessons have additional materials with extra material you might need for teaching the lesson.
The assessment exit quiz will test your pupils' understanding of the key learning points.
