      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can get into range and shoot with good form

      Key learning points

      1. Move: good shooting technique requires a follow through towards the goal to create power.
      2. Think: understanding where to stand when attacking will increase scoring probability.
      3. Feel: courage is needed when shooting but it's important the outcome doesn't reduce self-confidence.
      4. Connect: hand signals and eye contact can allow you to non-verbally communicate with teammates.

      Keywords

      • Invade - attack the oppositions territory by moving the ball towards their goal

      • Technique - the specific way a sport's skill is executed to increase success

      • Shield - using your body to protect the ball when in possession

      Common misconception

Confident players shooting from out of range and failing to pass when would have been a better option.

Getting in a strong position with a high probability of scoring if you shoot is essential. It is important to pass to a teammate in a better position rather than shoot when out of range.

      Teacher tip

This lesson can be modified to focus on just football/netball/basketball/handball etc but if facilities allow, it works even better with a mix of goals and techniques to explore to understand general principles of being in a good position; well balanced and following through towards the goal.
