Key learning points
- Move: a change of direction can be used to get into space to receive a ball.
- Think: it is important to respond quickly to where there is open space on court.
- Think: the patella is also referred to as the kneecap.
- Feel: moving into space persistently when being marked requires determination.
- Connect: signalling, good contact and a positive body movement should be used before receiving the ball.
Keywords
Feint - to go one way by moving the feet and the body, then set off in another direction and into space
Obstruction - a rule stating you must be 1 metre away from the ball holder when defending
Third - the netball court is divided into three sections, a goal third at each end and a centre third
Common misconception
An attacker should move as as soon as their teammate catches the ball.
A feint is an effective way to create space as we wait for the ball handler to present the ball ready to make the pass, rather than moving too early and the defender being able to catch up with you.
