Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: moving quickly into a space to attack requires running with fast feet.
  2. Think: different attacking options have specific positional spaces and responsibilities.
  3. Feel: to almost unconsciously move into a free space to receive a pass requires anticipation.
  4. Connect: when you are free for the ball it is important to look for and communicate this with your teammates.

Keywords

  • Centre (C) - the player who takes the centre restarts and is allowed everywhere except in the goal circle at each end

  • Wing attack (WA) - the player who connects the centre with the shooting positions and is allowed in the attacking goal and centre third

  • Wing defence (WD) - the player who connects the centre from the circle defenders and is allowed in the defensive goal and centre third

Common misconception

Pupils think that the opposite team to the scoring team take the following center pass.

The center pass is alternated throughout the game regardless of which team scores.

Depending on previous netball experience, you may want to make this lesson 5v5 and not introduce the WA/WD and use the rules from High 5 / Stinger netball.
