Navigating the assault course as a team
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can work with others to navigate an assault course whilst carrying precious items.
Key learning points
- Move: contracting our core muscles stabilises the body and improves balance.
- Think: taking your time to avoid mistakes often ends up faster in the long run.
- Feel: avoiding the temptation to give up in the face of difficult challenges requires determination.
- Connect: working as a team requires clear communication and shared responsibility.
Keywords
Navigate - to plan and direct the path you will follow
Precious - an item of great value that should be treated with care
Compassion - showing sympathy and care for others by being motivated to make things easier for them
Common misconception
Blaming others for mistakes and rushing rather than planning first and taking care over the approach.
Less overall time is lost if you invest in planning, negotiating and caring for each other.
Teacher tip
For your precious items, chose a variety of equipment that is both easy to handle and tricky, so you can differentiate for students appropriately.
Equipment
floor marker / hoop per students or chalk to draw circles, selection of equipment to make 2 assault courses and act as a precious item for each student to carry.
