Trust exercises
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can complete tasks that rely on the contribution of others to reduce risk.
Key learning points
- Move: supporting others or guiding them through an area requires accurate positioning.
- Move: gripping onto our team mates successfully and safely requires a strong wrist grip.
- Think: knowing that risks are situations where someone is exposed to danger is important for considering our strategies.
- Feel: building trust requires consistent and reliable actions.
- Connect: trusting others requires you to listen, respect and try others ideas.
Keywords
Trust - feeling safe with someone and believing that they will do the right thing and keep their promises
Risk - a situation involving exposure to danger
Contribution - the role played by someone in bringing about a result or helping something to advance
Common misconception
Pupils may struggle to trust others to have their back.
Trust is a two-way process and something that needs to be earned and then not taken advantage of.
Teacher tip
At the start of the lesson, allow pupils to work with those they already trust. As the lesson moves through, encourage pupils to learn to trust new peers to increase the challenge. If students are resistant to hold hands, despite encouragment, you could add a bib between hands.
Equipment
Blindfolds or bibs for one between two, a selection of equipment for students to use to build their own obstalce courses with (e.g. hoops, ropes, cones, benches, small gym tables etc)
