Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: fielders backup the post that teammates are most likely to throw the ball towards to prevent a misfield.
  2. Think: positive language is used to provide feedback to others due to the impact on their self-esteem and motivation.
  3. Thick: tactics are applied to work more effectively as a team when both batting and fielding.
  4. Feel: look for the positive in situations, dwelling on mistakes results in reduced self-esteem.
  5. Connect: compassion when working with each other is demonstrated by focusing on what's effective more than the mistakes.

Keywords

  • Tactics - the planned actions or strategies used by players or teams to gain an advantage and perform better in the game

  • Back up - having a teammate ready to support another player in case they miss or drop the ball

  • Analyse - examine something in detail in order to explain and or interpret it

Common misconception

Pupils often make slow decisions when covering each other due to lack of confidence. They also panic when they are under pressure in a game situation.

Encourage quick and clear communication using captains and coaches to help players make good decisions.
