Key learning points
- Move: positioning yourself at an equal angle on the opposite side of the rebound frame increases catching frequency.
- Think: the trajectory of a rebound can be anticipated from the angle of the shot.
- Feel: rebounding hard shots from the opposition is challenging and requires self-discipline when mistakes are made.
- Connect: maximising offensive and defensive efficiency comes from working as a cohesive unit within your team.
Keywords
Change of possession - possession changes occur when the ball is dropped, goes out of bounds or after a point is scored
Unit - a subgroup within a team
Deception - selling a dummy or another action to confuse the opposition
Common misconception
Pupils think a defensive player must catch the ball outright on initial contact from a shot.
It is sometimes more effective to bump a rebound up in the air for a teammate to catch, but it does then count as a pass. Whereas if you catch it cleanly or catch your own rebound, it doesn't use up one of your passes.
