Team play and advanced game strategies
Lesson details
Learning outcome
Use a range of previously learned skills to apply new strategies within a game situation.
Key learning points
- Move: pushing the kin-ball in unison will increase the velocity and accuracy of the shot.
- Move: quickly moving from set, to following the kin-ball after the hit, aids positioning for the next phase of play.
- Think: using an extended hit stretches the defenders and increases the chances of scoring a winning point.
- Feel: working to achieve a common goal builds connections and strengthens relationships.
- Connect: ensuring all players are active in attack builds teamwork and collective responsibility.
Keywords
Collaboration - teamwork, communication and strategy to keep the ball in play and outscore opponents
Extended hit - a technique where the kin-ball is hit in the same direction as before, making it harder for defenders to react
Team captain - a person designated to take leadership and decision-making responsibilities
Common misconception
Pupils find it difficult to get into an effective defensive position.
A quick transition out of a set position will reduce the chance of this occuring.
Teacher tip
After the ball has been caught, all team members must get to the kin-ball before the hit can be executed. The last player to arrive at the kin-ball should be the one to hit it. By doing this, you significantly reduce the time between attack and defence.
