Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: tagging a runner with the ball while they are between bases gets them out.
  2. Think: assessing the risk and reward of running between bases before deciding to run can help you avoid getting out.
  3. Think: carefully consider the vocabulary used to feedback to others to improve performance.
  4. Feel: valuing the impact others can have on performance helps you to become more open to constructive feedback.
  5. Connect: working collaboratively as a team greatly increases the chance of success.

Keywords

  • Tagging - when a fielder touches a runner with the ball while the runner is off a base, in order to get them out

  • Feedback - information given to someone about their performance to help them understand what they did well and what they could improve

  • Improvement - make something better over time through practice, feedback or effort

Common misconception

Pupils who are more experienced may ignore the contribution of less able pupils, or even belittle or berate them when they don't contribute well to the team.

Encourage pupils to use their knowledge to offer feedback which can help bring about an improvement, emphasising that in team games, an individual cannot and should not perform all roles or carry the team.
