  2. The Samaritans were outcast by other Jews because their religious ideas were seen to be unacceptable.
  3. In the story, Jesus accepts water from the Samaritan woman.
  4. People at the time would have been shocked that Jesus shared a cup with someone who would have been seen as unclean.
