      Key learning points

      1. Fire is very dangerous.
      2. Button batteries can kill us if we swallow them.
      3. Shelves and cupboards can fall on us.
      4. Chemicals and tablets can be dangerous if we swallow them.

      Keywords

      • Dangerous - something that can cause us harm

      • Battery - something we put in electronic things to make them work

      • Swallow - when your throat muscles push something into your stomach

      • Chemical - a substance that can change things that it touches

      • Emergency - a dangerous situation that needs immediate help

      Common misconception

Medicine is always ok for us as it makes us feel better if we are sick.

Unless the medicine is given to us by a doctor or pharmacist, it could make us more ill. We must only ever take medicine if a trusted adult has said it is ok to do so.

      Teacher tip

Create a homework task where pupils identify dangers in their homes. With the help of a trusted adult, or working as a group, go around the school identifying where similar dangers are in the school environment.
