Why this why now
As Year 11 pupils mature, they require an understanding of online control, digital identity and safety. This unit addresses using personal power responsibly online, responding to harassment, protecting financial security, and recognising radicalisation. At this stage, pupils face increased independence, making it important they maintain control over their digital presence, protect themselves from exploitation and harm, and know when and how to access appropriate support.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils should understand from Key Stage 3 basic online safety including protecting personal information, recognising harmful content, and that online activity has real-world consequences.
- Pupils should be familiar with identifying and reporting harmful online behaviours from previous units, including bullying, harassment, manipulation and misinformation.
- Pupils should know how to access support for online concerns including trusted adults and specialist services, understanding that seeking help is important and protective.
