Weather - Weather is what the conditions are like in a particular place at a particular time. For example, rain, wind or sun.
Season - Seasons are periods of similar weather. In the UK there are four seasons (spring, summer, autumn and winter).
Autumn - Autumn is the season after summer and before winter.
Temperature - Temperature is a measure of how hot or cold something is.
Thermometer - A thermometer is a piece of equipment for measuring temperature.
Common misconception
Pupils associate different seasons with activities, rather than physical characteristics like the weather.
Explanation of different weathers that the pupils may experience in different seasons.
Teacher tip
This lesson should be taught in autumn so that the pupils have the opportunity to collect data about what the weather is like at this time of year. Try to provide different types of thermometers including digital if possible.
