Key learning points
- Any vowel with a written accent is stressed. For words ending in vowels, -n or -s, stress the penultimate syllable.
- For all other words, stress the final syllable.
- Learning new vocabulary helps develop your understanding and comprehension.
- Many Spanish infinitives end in -ar; they are called-ar verbs.
- To say 'she, he' with -ar verbs, remove the -ar ending and add -a. To say 'they', remove the -ar ending and add -an.

Common misconception
Only syllables in words with written accents should be stressed.
Any vowel with a written accent is stressed. For words ending in vowels, -n and -s, the penultimate syllable is stressed. For all other words, the final syllable is stressed.
