Key learning points

  1. In Spanish all words with antepenultimate (third-last) syllable stress have an accent, e.g. música.
  2. The verb 'hacer' means to do, to make. It is an irregular verb; I do is 'hago', she, he, it does is 'hace'.
  3. To make a sentence negative, add 'no' before the verb. This works with any verb and any person.

Keywords

  • Hacer - irregular Spanish verb meaning to do, to make

  • Hago - I do, part of the Spanish verb 'hacer'

  • Hace - she, he, it does, part of the Spanish verb 'hacer'

  • No - word used before a verb to make a negative

Common misconception

Like English, Spanish uses two different words to make verbs negative — just as English uses 'do not/don't' and 'does not/doesn't.'

In Spanish, simply use 'no' before the verb for all subjects (I, you, he, she, etc.) to make a negative, e.g. 'no hago' - I don't do, 'no hace' - she, he, it doesn't do.
