Key learning points

  1. In Spanish, the simple present tense is used for habitual actions.
  2. For -ar verbs, the 'she, he, it' form ends in -a (e.g. 'estudia') and the 'they' form ends in -an (e.g. 'estudian').
  3. For -er/-ir verbs, the 'she, he, it' form ends in -e (e.g. 'lee') and the 'they' form ends in -en (e.g. 'leen').

Keywords

  • Simple present - describes habitual events in the present: 'I do'

Common misconception

-ar, -er, and -ir verbs all share the same endings in the present tense for 'she, he, it' and 'they' forms.

-er and -ir verbs share the same endings for 'she, he, it' and 'they' forms, but -ar verbs have a different ending.
