Key learning points

  1. In Spanish, adjectives usually follow the nouns they describe to communicate a literal, objective description.
  2. Adjective position in Spanish can vary. Adjectives before a noun can communicate a figurative, subjective description.
  3. The conditional is a verb form used to express what would happen.
  4. To conjugate singular forms of the conditional, add -ía, -ías, -ía to the infinitive.
  5. 'Habría', 'haría', 'podría', 'pondría' and 'tendría' are common irregular conditional verbs.

Keywords

  • Adjective - word that gives information about a noun

  • Conditional - form of verb used to communicate what would happen

Common misconception

In Spanish, all adjectives must be placed after the noun.

The position of adjectives in Spanish can be flexible. When adjectives follow nouns, this communicates a literal, objective description. If an adjective is placed before a noun, this can communicate a figurative, subjective description.
