Key learning points

  1. It is important to have a good knowledge of sound-spelling correspondences to produce accurate transcriptions.
  2. The inflectional future is a 1-verb structure used to say what will happen in the future.
  3. Singular conjugations of the inflectional future are formed by adding the endings -é, -ás or -á to the infinitive.
  4. The verbs 'poner' and 'haber' have irregular stems in the future tense: 'pondr'- and 'habr-'.

Common misconception

When conjugating verbs in Spanish, you always need to start by taking off the infinitive ending.

Some verb tenses, such as the inflectional future, are formed by adding the relevant ending to the infinitive. As such, the infinitive ending is not taken off.
