      Key learning points

      1. To conjugate singular forms of the conditional, add -ía, -ías, -ía to the infinitive.
      2. ‘Habría’, ‘haría’, ‘podría’, ‘pondría’ and ‘tendría’ are common irregular conditional verbs.
      3. To conjugate plural forms of the conditional, add -íamos, -íais, -ían to the infinitive.
      4. The verbs ‘decir’, ‘querer’, ‘saber’, ‘salir’ and ‘venir’ have irregular stems in the conditional.

      Keywords

      • Conditional - form of verb used to express what would happen

      Common misconception

To form any verb in the conditional, add a conditional ending to the infinitive.

Not all verbs are regular in the conditional and some don't follow this pattern. Some verbs have irregular stems in the conditional, e.g. 'tener' ('tendr-') and 'poder' ('podr-').
