Hello everyone my name is Miss Weerasekera and welcome to lesson two in our unit about creating a news report.

In our last lesson, we had a go at listing to my news reports and writing our story map.

Today we are going to step our story map then we're going to speak the story from memory as best as we can.

I've talked about this before, but I have just received some beautiful flowers.

The last ones were kind of white whereas these ones are pink and purple, lots of green, even some red and they smell so lovely and they're making me so happy today.

Is there anything that's making you really happy today? You're going to need something to write on like a piece of paper, a pencil or a pen to write with and of course your brain to help you remember the story.

If you do not have a pen or pencil or a piece of paper, pause the video now and then press play when you're ready to get started with our exciting lesson.

We're going to start off today with an oral game called Picture sentence.

You're then going to listen to my story one more time then it's going to be your chance to step the story, but I'll model how I would do it to you first and then finally, it's going to be your turn to speak the story as best as you can, using your stepping and your story map to help you.

We're going to start with our game, Picture sentence.

On the slides I'm going to show you three pictures and it's your job to try and create a sentence using all three of the pictures.

I'm going to have a go at this one first and then the other ones are going to be up to you.

There was an adorable little puppy running around in the park.

He saw a ball all of a sudden run up to it and with a mighty kick of his tiny pool, kicked it into the back of the goal.

Okay? So I didn't just do a really basic sentence.

I tried to use adjectives and verbs and to make it really powerful and interesting.

So I would like you to pause the video here and have a go at doing your own version of a sentence for these three pictures.

That was a fantastic sentence.

Let's look at the next set of pictures.

Okay? Now I'm not going to do this one for you.

You're going to have a go by yourself.

So pause the video here, have a look at the pictures and create your own sentence.

You can just say it verbally, but if it would help you, you can write it down.

That's a fantastic sentence too.

I can tell that your brain is really awake today.

Okay? Our final set of pictures, I've tried to link to our story and our news report a little bit.

Can you try and link these pictures to our story and the events that happen? Pause here, have a go at making your sentence and then press play when you are done.

Wow, I'm so impressed that you managed to link it into our story and our news report, great job.

You're now going to listen to my news report one more time to help prepare you for our stepping and your speaking later on.

Okay? So for the news report today, I'm going to be switching backwards and forwards between myself as the presenter of the news show and then to Apollo during the interview as well.

So going to try and change my mannerisms, my gesture, my voice and I'm also going to move my body physically and to help show the difference between the two characters too, okay? So, good evening.

My name is Miss Weerasekera and I'm reporting for you live from earth for Oak Academy News.

I'm here today to bring you the latest updates on the mysterious disappearance of the much loved harp.

It was reportedly stolen just hours ago here on earth from Apollo the god of sun and light.

According to our sources, the harp originally belonged to Apollo and was last seen and heard playing it's beautiful melodies here on earth.

Witnesses believe that the harp was stolen during the middle of the day as they recall the sun shining bright high in the sky.

One eye witness states that they saw Hades god of death lurking nearby the scene.

Hades has already been involved in a number of strange disappears cases.

So he remains the number one suspect on the disappearance of the harp too.

Here with me now I have Apollo himself to shed some more light on the details of this case.

Welcome Apollo, firstly, I just like to express my condolences for the loss of your harp.

Can you tell us a bit more about why this harp is so special to you and how you're dealing with the loss of it? Yes, thank you miss Weerasekera.

As I'm also the god of music, this harp is pretty vital to my role not only as a beautiful instrument, but it brings joy to both myself and everyone on earth through it's beautiful music.

Anyone who's been lucky enough to hear it sweet melodies will know the uplifting effect it has and to be quite honest, I'm feeling quite depressed and down now that it's gone.

I'm so sorry to hear that Apollo.

Now we've noticed that the sun has disappeared as the god of sun and light is there anything you can do to bring it back? I may be the god of sun and light but my ability to control them is completely dependent on my mood.

Without the harp I just can't see myself having the drive or the energy to bring the sun back up.

That's why I'm so keen to get my harp back.

I know that without it, the plants will wilt and die and soon enough we'll have nothing to eat.

So this situation could get a lot worse, not just for you, but for all of us as well.

Now Hades is currently the number one suspect on this case.

Do you think he's responsible? If you could send him a message, what would you say? Listen, I've had multiple run into Hades in the past.

We all know he was responsible for the disappearance of Persephone all of those years ago.

In that situation, Zeus stepped in and intervened and reasoned with Hades and I'm hoping he's going to be able to do the same for me.

I'd go and speak to Hades myself, but that didn't work out well last time trust me.

At this point, I'm willing to cooperate and compromise and just share the harp with Hades.

I'm hoping that he can see reason before it's too late.

Thank you Apollo for taking the time to talk to us today.

I think it's safe to say that we're all rooting for you and the safe return of your harp.

Thank you.

So there you have it, a bad situation that look like it could get a whole lot worse.

There are hopes that Hades will return the harp or that Zeus will intervene and negotiate a deal.

As the sky darkens here it certainly feels like many are starting to lose hope for a quick and easy fix to this situation.

Again, if you have any information about the whereabouts of the harp or of Hades, please contact the police as soon as possible.

I'm miss Weerasekera reporting to you live from earth back to the studio.

Okay? I am going to model how I would step this news report and then it's going to be your turn afterwards.

Things that I'm going to try and remember, my facial expressions, my player poses for each part and doing that big step in between so I know that I'm moving from one event to the next one.

Before we get started looking at all the smaller pictures, I would like us to step the structure first, which is the big bubbles that we drew in our story map.

So we had five, didn't we? We had introduction, question one, question two, question three, conclusion.

Okay? So for introduction, I'm going to do introduction just like opening a book, introduction.

The next one is question one.

So I'm going to say, question one.

I'm going to repeat that for two and three.

So it will be question two, question three and then finally conclusion.

I'm going to say conclusion.

So just to really embed that structure of unusual in our heads, we're going to step through it one more time.

Introduction, question one, question two, question three, conclusion.

So now that really clear on those steps, those are the ones that we are going to be doing moving forward.

Within each section we drew some smaller pictures and for those ones instead of stepping forward each time, because it will get confusing, we stepped to the side.

Okay? So if I have my introduction, then all of the little pictures and steps within that, I'm going to step sideways instead of forward.

And then when I finish all of those pictures in the introduction, I'll step forward to do question one and so on.

Okay? So I've got my story map with me it's on the floor here so I can use it to guide my stepping.

So what I'm going to do is I'm going to step forward for each section and then for the bit sign inside each section, I'm going to go sideways instead.

I know that makes it a little bit more tricky.

If you don't have much space, you can just do really tiny step.

Okay? So my first part is my introduction.

So in my introduction, I've got my who, so I'm going to go like this.

The Who.

Then I'm going to do the next bit, which is what? So I'm going to step to the side, what? Then I'm going to do the next bit which is, where.

The next bit which is, when and the last bit which is why? Okay? So those are my steps, so I'm going to say who, what, where, when, why? Okay, so those are my different parts of my introduction.

I go sideways instead of forward.

Now that I've done my introduction, I'm going to do a step forward and this bit is going to be the first question.

The first question was about how, why is the harp amazing and how does it make Apollo feel now that it's gone.

So the first one I'm going to have the harp, I'm going to play music.

I'm going to have a big smile on my face because we know that that's the impact it has on people.

So I'm going to be like this.

Okay? Now for the next one, the harp is gone and we know that makes Apollo feel sad.

So the step to the side, 'cause it's still the same section.

And this time I will do a really sad face.

Okay? So that's the question.

Now we can do another step forward for question two.

Okay? So question two, we know that the sunlight is gone and cause of that I'm going to do a big, sunlight is gone.

After that we know that the impact of the sunlight being gone we're going to repeat an action because I think it's a similar thing is going to be and then we know that the only way it would come back is if he has the harp again.

So it would be.

Okay? So for that section question two, I've got, no sun step, sad step.

How can you pay the So you were to come back.

Okay? Question three big steps forward, having to stay in calm while I'm shuffling about, but just imagine I going forward.

The next it was all about Hades, wasn't it? So this idea was that Hades stole the second name.

Okay? So the first one we have like a wicked looking Hades like he's got exactly.

Okay? Then I'm going to step to the side, this time it's the fact that they hope Zeus will come and make a deal with Hades then we have shaking hand after the deal.

And then finally again that they hope it happens before it's too late.

That's my scared face and that's the time is running out.

Hey, so for that section, question three, but Hades seem suffering The deal.

And then finally, time is running out, okay? And then I've got my final section, which is my conclusion.

So for my conclusion, the first bit is that a summary of the fact that things aren't looking very good.

So we start off with a thumbs down like that.

I'm then going to do a snap step to the side.

This is all in one section together, no sun and that means no hope.

Yes so no sun, no hope and then finally call the police.

Right? So for that section, thumbs down.

No sun, no hope and finally call the police.

So for this bit remember that we stepped forward between the big bubbles and when we do the little parts inside each bubble, we just go to the sides to do them.

Fantastic, now that you've seen me do my steps it's time for you to get your story map and to practise doing the steps of your own.

Pause here and have a go and then press play when you are finished with your stepping.

Those were some fantastic steps, even better than mine, I think, well done.

Okay? Time for my favourite bit.

It's your turn to speak the news report.

If you need to have a look at my telling of the story earlier to help you with how you can use your voice and your facial expressions to help tell the story, some top tips for you, make sure you put your story map, use a pretend microphone, I used a pen, it can be anything.

Project your voice, nice and loudly, perform it to a person that you live with, in front of a mirror or to a Teddy bear and remember to change position and change your voice for the different people in interview.

So when you're being Apollo and when you're being the interviewer, try and make that obviously different by changing voice and changing your position.

Pause here and then press play when you've had to go at performing.

Remember it doesn't need to be perfect.

You're just having a go, every time we practise, it goes a little bit more into our memory.

That was an amazing performance.

I can tell that so much of this news report is already in your head and that's going to make it so much easier later in the unit when we are boxing up and writing the news report for ourselves, well done.

Finally, our challenge task today.

Can you add one key word to each step of your story that summarises that part? This is like the summarising skills we were doing in the last unit.

So you're going to have to look at each part of your story map and think about what one word could you use to describe those sections.

Then I would like you to have a go at stepping of story one more time, but using that key word each time to help you.

Press pause and then press play when you have had a go at that.

Those were some fantastic summarising words.

If you would like to share your work today, ask a parent or carer to put it on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, tagging Oak National and using the hashtag LearnwithOak.

Well done for your enthusiasm today.

It can be a little bit daunting and scary getting up and stepping the story and performing the story yourself for the first time but you did it brilliantly.

In our next lesson we're going to dig a little bit deeper into our news report and think about how we can act in role as different people using our voice and our facial expressions and our body language so that we're ready to go on and write and perform our news report properly later in the unit.

I hope to see you there.
