Striking and fielding games: evaluate and improve performance in softball

6 lessons

Threads

  • Move: performance and competition
  • Think: evaluation, analysis and reflection

Description

This unit will develop batting, pitching and fielding skills unique to softball, such as using a glove and applying the rules around strikes and base running. Pupils will be challenged to evaluate both their own performance and that of others as they apply tenacity to this American game.

Pupils will already have explored rules, techniques and tactics for batting, bowling and fielding in rounders and cricket. Previous statistical and performance analysis skills will help with decision making. Pupils can take these skills, experiences and positive attitudes towards participation in a range of striking and fielding games into life with confidence and consequently lead healthy, active lives beyond school. They will also be able to spectate and socialise in and around competitive sport with an appreciation and understanding of how to play.

  1. Softball and basic rules
  2. Batting techniques
  3. Fielding and throwing techniques
  4. Pitching and catching techniques
  5. Base running and game strategies
  6. Game play and review of others performance
