Key learning points
- The prefix 'da-' is added to prepositions to refer back to something already mentioned and avoid repetition of the noun.
- We use da-compounds for inanimate nouns. We use direct object pronouns for people and animals.
- We use wo-compounds to ask questions with verbs that take prepositions.
- 'Wo' and 'da' become 'wor' and 'dar' before prepositions starting with a vowel.
- The consonantal [r] makes a rolling sound at the back of the throat and the vocalic [r] has a gentle ‘ah’ sound.

Consonantal [r] - pronounced with a rolling sound, as in ‘Freund’
