Lesson details
Key learning points
- There are 28, 29, 30 or 31 days in a month.
- There are 364 or 365 days in a year.
Keywords
Month - One of the 12 parts of the year
Leap year - A year with an extra day
Common misconception
Pupils may forget how many days are in each month. They do not particularly follow a pattern or sequence. For example, pupils might be tempted to say that August has 30 days because it follows July.
You could 'interrupt the forgetting' by providing frequent opportunities for pupils to recall these facts outside the Maths lesson, using flashcards for each month with the month on the front and the number of days on the back.
