Key learning points

  1. In Spain, the sound-symbol correspondence [z] is pronounced like the 'th' in 'think', and [s] like an 's'.
  2. In Latin America, the Canary Islands and parts of Spain, the sounds [z] and [s] are pronounced like an 's'.
  3. The present tense of -ar verbs in 1st person singular ends in -o.
  4. The preterite tense of -ar verbs in 3rd person singular ends in -ó.
  5. Adverbs of position are always followed by 'de', 'del' or 'de la' depending on what follows.

Common misconception

Adverbs of position are always followed by 'de'.

Adverbs of position are followed by 'de' when they refer to a place/person, by 'del' when they refer to masculine nouns, and by 'de la' when they refer to feminine nouns.

As a follow up activity to this lesson, the teacher might want to ask students to write their own sentences about what they normally do online and offline, as well as what someone else did yesterday.
