Ceramics

In this lesson we will learn about creating art and craft works using clay. We will learn about the technique of slabbing and how to join pieces of clay together in order to make an open box. We will experiment with drawing details onto our clay work.

In this lesson we will be learning about pinching and coiling techniques and will create a simple pinch pot and coiled pot. We will experiment with impressing and painting onto clay.

We will learn how clay can be used as a medium for sculpture and will explore free modelling. We will view art works and use ideas from these to inform our own making. We will learn how to add details by joining pieces of clay together and we will evaluate our work.

For this lesson we will look at the work of two artists who work with clay. We will use their work as inspiration for our own making. We will gather ideas in our sketchbook and begin to make our artwork out of clay. We will evaluate our work as it progresses.

In this lesson we will be adding finishing touches to our clay work by painting it and making a plinth to stand it on. We will decide where to display it and will evaluate our finished piece.
