Textiles

In this lesson we will learn about textiles. We will focus on the different ways we use them around our homes and how they are constructed. We will examine how they are embellished and decorated. We will use a sketchbook to record our ideas and what we have learnt.

In this lesson we will learn about weaving. We will look at the importance of pattern and how pattern can be incorporated into weaving. We will make a simple loom and create a weaving. We will use our sketchbooks to record this process and our thinking.

In this lesson we will learn what sewing and embroidery are and how they are used to create patterns. We will use our sketchbooks to record what we find. We will learn how to sew running stitch and will create a sample of our own sewing.

We will learn what applique is. We will plan and create our own piece of work using applique. Our sketchbooks will be used to record our ideas.

We will review our work from the last lesson. We will learn what embellishment is and how to embellish our own work. Once completed, we will reflect on our final piece thinking about what went well and what we might do differently next time. This will be recorded in our sketchbooks.
