      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can use the line tool and shape tool in my digital artwork.

      Key learning points

      1. Marks can be made using the shape and line tools.
      2. Shapes can be created by using line and fill tools.
      3. The undo tool can be used to revert back to previous steps.

      Keywords

      • Undo - to go back one step

      • Line tool - draws a straight line

      • Shape tool - draws a shape

      Common misconception

I can only use the line and shape tools to make pictures. I can't combine them with freehand drawing or other tools.

You can use lots of different tools to make digital artwork. You can use different digital tools to draw shapes, colour in and add details.

      Teacher tip

When demonstrating how to draw shapes, narrate your actions to the pupils so that they understand why the shapes are drawn in that way and what the different parts of the drawing tools are used for.

      Equipment

Pupils will need access to a device with software that provides freehand digital painting tools. Examples in this lesson use paintz.app https://oak.link/paintz
