Key learning points
- Tally charts are designed to organise data.
- Pictograms can be created from tally charts.
- Pictograms show us information.
Keywords
Information - important knowledge or facts from the data collected
Pictogram - a chart that uses pictures to display data
Common misconception
It is quicker to create a pictogram by hand than trying to create one on a computer.
When creating a pictogram on a computer, it is much quicker and the pictures will be uniform in appearance. Working on a computer also has the benefit of being able to make changes quickly and easily without having to redo the entire pictogram.

The practice tasks are also available as printable worksheets and some lessons have additional materials with extra material you might need for teaching the lesson.
The assessment exit quiz will test your pupils' understanding of the key learning points.
Our video is a tool for planning, showing how other teachers might teach the lesson, offering helpful tips, modelled explanations and inspiration for your own delivery in the classroom. Plus, you can set it as homework or revision for pupils and keep their learning on track by sharing an online pupil version of this lesson.
